It brought us great sadness to hear of Jim’s death at the end of last year.
Jim was a founder member of the Festival and has been involved as a major contributor right up to the last Festival held in 2019.
He has been a Committee member, Chairman and Speaker. Simultaneously combining roles as his history talks have appeared every year of the Festival existence. The talks began in 1986 under the title “ ‘ Chipping Sodbury ’Old and New’ “, morphing through ‘As it was – As it is’ until ‘Everchanging Sodbury’ became the final title of the most popular event of the Festival; always being sold out each and every year.
No one has worn so many hats as Jim over the whole length of the Festival existence.
For all his great work for the Festival we shall most miss the man himself. A supporter of everyone else’s efforts, a giver of his immense knowledge and a quiet steadying hand to those who joined the Committee later. He was so modest about his many roles and his humour at just the right time was perfect. Thankyou Jim it has been an honour to know you.
The Festival Committee have extended their sympathy to Mary and all his family on their loss of such a wonderful man and repeat it here with thanks for sharing him with us.
